Fall 2019: Beauty Trends You'll Love
This story originally appeared on The Shops at Columbus Circle.
Fall is here, which means the weather is getting cool and crisp, the leaves will soon be changing, and your wardrobe is about to change, too. It’s also an exciting time to put away your summer makeup and try out some fresh looks for the new season, and there’s no better destination for an autumnal transformation than Sephora at The Shops at Columbus Circle. We tapped into Helen Phillips, Sephora Collection National Makeup Artist, to find out what’s in store.
Tell us about your role at Sephora.
As Sephora Collection’s National Makeup Artist, I’m here to bring simplified beauty to clients and provide my expertise through artistry, education, and events. My goal is to make navigating beauty options a breeze and to show that Sephora Collection truly has something for everyone. You can find me on all of Sephora Collection’s channels, sharing advice and product knowledge, as well as how-to videos.
What's your top piece of beauty advice for Fall 2019?
A dewy complexion is always a good start, but then you should pick one thing that’s going to enhance the look. If you love your lips, try infusing a pop of color. I’m still loving hot pink for fall. If you want to enhance your cheeks, make your blush a brighter shade or create a “C” shape around your eye. If I want more intensity, I use the Sephora Collection Colorful Face Powders in Hey Jealousy ($14). To draw more attention to your eyes, pick a bolder shade and swipe it across the lids. Sephora Collection Eye Love Eyeshadow Palette in Bright Tones ($14) gives you so many wearable shades.
Any advice for someone who is looking for dewy skin?
First, it’s best to treat any skin issues. I recommend using the Sephora Collection Glow Peel Pads ($15), then the Sephora Collection Ultra Glow Serum ($20). Follow with a moisturizer that is best for your skin type. Personally, I love our Sephora Collection Nourishing Moisturizer ($16). Then use a liquid foundation that has a dewy finish. If you want to get more glow, mix it with a liquid luminizer like the Sephora Collection Golden Hour Liquid Highlighter ($14). Apply with a flat foundation brush like the Sephora Collection Total Coverage Sponge ($12).
Are there any new eye or lip looks you have been seeing recently that really stand out?
I’ve noticed a ton of throwbacks to different eras right now, especially when it comes to makeup. The ’90s are reflected with bold black imperfect eyeliner and brown lips. Also, I’ve been noticing looks from the ’70s with eyeshadow in shades like orange, pink, yellow, and lilac. I’ve even noticed that '80s glitz and glitter is the new go-to with a smoky eye. If you love the look of long eyelashes, go for something light and fluffy like Sephora Collection #LASHSTORIES in Cheers ($8).
Anything else you're excited about for Fall 2019?
I’m most excited about the new Sephora Collection products launching this Fall. My favorite new product is the Matte Perfection Tinted Moisturizer ($18), which I go over with the Golden Hour Luminizing Powder in Dusk ($16) on the high points of the face to add luminosity. It wears so well and is the perfect coverage. Another newish product that I’m obsessed with is the Hot Line Brush Tip Liquid Eyeliner ($14) — it’s seriously my favorite liquid liner out there.
