Delight Your Friends With These 5 Cocktail Recipes
It’s the season of drinking: From holiday parties to cozy nights by the fire, cocktails are a great addition to all winter gatherings. We asked Rosario Toscano, the beverage manager at the newly opened Bluebird London NYC, to share the drinks that are taking off right now. Plus, he provides a recipe for each so you can incorporate the latest beverage trends into your hosting game.
Fall/Winter Citrus
“Citrus like clementines and blood oranges are great this time of year. These acids can help brighten your day. Plus, gin and tonics are a year-round cocktail now. Garnish appropriately with seasonal ingredients and you’ll look like a cocktail all-star.”
This Thing of Ours
Malfy Sicilian Blood Orange Gin, Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic, blood orange wheel, juniper berries. Build this cocktail in a large wine glass over ice. Garnish with a blood orange wheel and juniper berries.
Coffee Liquor
“Cold brew is still dominating the coffee world, and now we’re starting to see boutique coffee liquors creep their way into cocktails. We love Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liquor from Australia. It’s not thick and syrupy and the flavor isn't artificial.”
Back to Black
Pierde Almas Mezcal, Caffo bitter, Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liquor, orange. Stir ingredients in a mixing glass and strain over a large cube or ice sphere in a rocks glass. Garnish with orange twist and 3 coffee beans.
Low ABV
“’Tis the season for drinking. Stick with a low-ABV cocktail so you don’t end up embarrassing yourself or missing work the next morning.”
Churchill’s Cup
Churchill’s 10 Year Tawny Port, Pimms, lemon, simple syrup, Fever Tree Ginger Ale. Shake all ingredients except ginger ale and strain over fresh ice in a Collins glass or tumbler. Top with ginger ale. Garnish with blackberries, mint and cucumber wheel on a pick. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Scotch
“Scotch isn’t just an old man’s drink anymore. Substitute scotch in your favorite cocktails—like for vodka in a Moscow mule—for a winter version.”
Martha My Dear
Glenmorangie 10 Year, lime, angostura bitters, simple syrup, Fever Tree Ginger Beer. Combine all ingredients except ginger beer in shaker. Shake, strain over fresh ice in Collins glass or your favorite copper mug. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with large sprig of mint.
Bubbles
“Champagne and sparkling wine can make great cocktails beside the mimosa and Bellini. Step up your cocktail game with a French 75 or our version of it, the English 75, with English bubbles and London Dry Gin.”
English 75
Sipsmith Gin, Nyetimber Brut Classic, lemon, simple syrup. Combine all ingredients except bubbles into shaker. Shake, strain into champagne flute or wine glass. Top with Nyetimber. Garnish with lemon twist.
