Hudson Yards Restaurants Ranked Best in the City

As if you needed another reason to go to Hudson Yards, two of the neighborhood's restaurants have just topped the "Best Restaurant Of the Year" lists of three of the city's most powerful critics: Pete Wells of The New York Times, Adam Platt of New York Magazine, and Ryan Sutton of Eater.

Which restaurants have been thus anointed? Mercado Little Spain by José Andrés and Kawi by David Chang, both of which are serving up dishes that can't be found in any other restaurants in New York.

Of Mercado Little Spain, Wells said his choice to rank it the number one new restaurant in New York was not "a close call," noting that the dishes served at the food hall are "so much better than what we’re used to that Mercado Little Spain might as well be the only Spanish restaurant in New York." Platt – who put it in his second slot – called it a "pleasing, multi-faceted, José Andrés extravaganza," noting his favorite dishes are the Valencian paella, churros, and the morcilla with eggs and simmered tripe from Spanish Diner.

Kawi was equally praised by the critics: Wells said its kimbap section "alone is more rewarding than the entire menu of most restaurants," while Platt called out the 28 Day dry-aged ribeye steak, as well as the shaved ice dessert bingsoo. Sutton – who named Kawi one of his two restaurants of the year – particularly liked the Spicy Raw Crabs, as well as the rice cakes.

Incidentally, Sutton also called out Noodle Bar Columbus Circle in the Shops at Columbus Circle as one of his favorite spots, due to its innovative new dishes like the steamed beef rolls and the Dover sole.
