6 Restaurants to Check Out Near the U.S. Open
Heading to the U.S. Open this August? While the food at Arthur Ashe Stadium is surprisingly top-notch for an arena (we recommend Fuku, Dean & Deluca, and Oyster Bar), some of the best restaurants in all of New York City are in Queens, and the tournament offers a perfect opportunity to venture out and try them. Below, our top picks for must-try places to grab a bite before or after a match.
Trattoria L'incontro: Ranked one of the top restaurants in Astoria by Zagat, Trattoria L'Incotro is an upscale Italian spot with a specials list "longer than the Sunday Times." Trattoria is a 15-minute ride from Arthur Ashe Stadium, but is well-worth the drive. For dairy lovers, we recommend the Eggplant Rollatini as an entrée and the stellar Tiramisu as the perfect dessert.
Christos Steak House: This "American steakhouse with Mediterranean influence" is also a 15-minute drive from the stadium, but if you are a lover of all things steak, this place is sure to satisfy. Christos steaks are aged for 21 days to enhance flavor and tenderness, then charbroiled at 1,200 degrees. Start your meal with their "Trio of Appetizers" option, which lets you choose from a long list of meats, vegetables and fish dishes, before digging into a juicy and tender steak.
Park Side Restaurant: A short trip from the stadium in the heart of Corona you’ll find beloved local favorite, Park Side. Well-known for their friendly atmosphere and massive Italian entrées, Park Side is perfect for large groups who want to try a lot of different foods. The Shrimp Parmesan is a particular favorite for new visitors.
Victoria's Pizza: Victoria's Pizza is only five minutes from the stadium and is home to incredibly thick Sicilian slices. Unlike the other restaurants on the list, Victoria's is more of a grab-and-go place – ideal if you’re in a rush to get to your stadium seats.
Kabul Kabab House: Kabul Kabob House offers traditional Middle Eastern foods like kebabs, kofta, and bakhlava in cozy quarters. Their menu is also loaded with an assortment of unique vegetarian options. We would recommend getting a combination platter where you choose any two kabobs from the entrée menu, served with your choice of rice and salad.
Dumpling Galaxy: Flushing is home to some of the best Asian food spots in the city. If we had to pick one place to visit however, it would be Dumpling Galaxy. Not too far from the stadium, this restaurant boasts a sleek, modern interior with seemingly endless dumpling options. We would recommend starting with a choice of their signature dumplings, like the Shrimp, Scallop & Crab Meat Dumplings or the Lamb with Cilantro Dumplings, coupled with a steamed Lobster or Crab entrée.
