Off The Wall 2.0 to Launch at Hudson Yards

Hudson Yards’ beloved art platform is reinventing itself this summer, this time with new artists and a first-time outdoor showcase (coming soon). Fittingly, “OFF THE WALL 2.0” is a celebration of the irrepressible spirit of the city and its people. One piece, by Dirty Bandits, inspires viewers to achieve more, do more, give more and love more. Another, by local artist Erika deVries of Lite Brite Neon, incorporates handwritten transcriptions from her family members. The contribution of Felix R. Cid even repurposes cardboard boxes from Hudson Yards’s own retailers! Another featured creator is Seb Patane.
When “OFF the WALL” launched in conjunction with last year’s opening of The Shops & Restaurants, it provided a highly compelling and friendly welcome, offering visitors a chance to experience multimedia works in a non-gallery setting. (The title of the ongoing exhibit refers not only to where the art is displayed but also the mood of the pieces too—unusual, curious, with a touch of humor.) All of it strives to be site specific, relating to the area’s past, present and future.
The large-scale pieces— tableaux, 3D pieces or murals—welcome interaction. Whether taking photos or manipulating the materials, visitors become activators, and members of a community experience that can be shared by individuals of all ages and backgrounds at the hashtag #OFFTHEWALLxHY. With its latest contribution, OFF the WALL affirms its place as a defining partner of the vibrant neighborhood.
