Inside Snark Park, an Immersive Experience at Hudson Yards
It may be Springtime outside, but for anyone dreaming of a white wonderland, you can hop on over to Snark Park at Hudson Yards. The brainchild of Snarkitecture – a "collaborative design practice established to investigate the boundaries between disciplines" – Snark Park is an immersive interactive experience in the Shops & Restaurants.
What does that mean exactly? According to Snarkitecture partner Ben Porto, "our work is not simply Art or Architecture, but something in-between that is more accessible, interactive and playful."
That playful spirt was certainly apparent on a recent visit, when children and adults alike ran around the 3,000-square-foot space, which has been swathed in pillars of white fabric and decorated with a dizzying selection of white and mirrored objects. Visitors shuffled pieces around on scattered black boardgames and snapped selfies in the many mirrored surfaces. Outside, guests line up for special Kith ice cream treats.
According to Porto, there is no wrong way to interact with Snark Park; he encourages all to "come with an open mind and explorative spirit," when visiting. And indeed you'll note there are plenty of surprises hiding in plain site (in one case, directly behind the mirror!), inviting you to both participate in the experience and watch others do so.
Snark Park is going to be changing up its installations three times per year. And while Porto stayed mum on what show to expect next, no doubt it too will be ripe for exploration and discovery.
Snark Park is open Sunday - Thursday, 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Friday - Saturday, 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for children.
