Four Cities to See Spectacular Fireworks Shows

There's something magical about watching fireworks light up the night sky. The brilliant bursts of color, the thunderous booms, and the collective awe of the crowd all create an unforgettable experience. Whether it's a small backyard display or a grand show in the heart of the city, fireworks have a unique way of bringing people together to celebrate. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite fireworks shows this Independence Day.

Washington, DC

PBS hosts the annual “A Capitol Fourth” concert on the National Mall ahead of the fireworks spectacular. You can watch it live on television but we recommend catching it in person. Take the Metro down to the Smithsonian exit and camp out early for a great spot to see the fireworks go off with the Washington Monument as your backdrop. This year’s performers include Alfonso Ribeiro, Darren Criss and Smokey Robinson, among others, as well as all manner of military bands. It’s a true American experience that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.

New York City

Macy’s doesn’t only do the Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, the brand is also responsible for one of the best fireworks displays in the country over the Hudson River. Your best bet–and the coolest way–to see it? Get your tickets to view it from Edge at Hudson Yards. See the display from 1,100-feet in the sky from the largest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. Your tickets not only include the best view in town, but also an open bar and unlimited appetizers from 8 to 10 p.m. and a DJ set from 7:30-11 p.m. Cheers to America!

Boston

The Boston Symphony Orchestra has been performing free concerts on the Esplanade for more than 90 years and the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is an especially beloved tradition, growing in recent years. This year's Boston Pops concert at the Hatch Shell will feature performers Darlene Love, The Mavericks and Kelli O’Hara accompanied by the BSO, with a spectacular fireworks display–set to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture–over the Charles River. 

Los Angeles

The Hollywood Bowl is considered by many Los Angelenos the epicenter of entertainment in the City of Angels, so what better place to celebrate the Fourth of July on the west coast. This year’s Hollywood Bowl Fourth of July celebration will be hosted by crooner Harry Connick, Jr. The Grammy- and Emmy-winner will headline three nights of Fourth of July fun (July 2, 3 and 4) with each concert night capped off by red, white and blue fireworks over the Hollywood Bowl.
