This Class Will Have You Running Better Than You Ever Thought Possible
For anyone who dreaded doing the mile in gym class, a new studio based on Equinox's most popular class promises to "redefine how you think about treadmill training."
Located in Flatiron, Precision Run is an indoor, interval-based running class outfitted with special elements designed to make running more enjoyable, like oxygen-enriched air, and a light and music system that is coordinated with the intervals. Not to mention, the treadmills themselves were custom made for the class, with features like a smart key dashboard that auto populates each interval speed onto your screen, and instant speed control that allows you to quickly slow down to your recovery speed or speed up to your sprinting pace with the push of a button.
"That way, you’re not spending 20 of your 45 seconds of recovery coming down off of whatever the incline may be, you actually get to recover," said Sarah Grooms, a coach at Precision Run who led our residents on an exclusive resident-only class this week. (All Related residents are eligible for a complimentary class at Precision Run; check out the offer here).
Precision Run is not just for running haters, either; serious runners will find it challenging too, thanks to the structure of the class. At the start, each runner figures out their PR – or "personal record" – which is essentially the fastest speed you can sustain for a minute. As Grooms put it, "it's a speed that’s going to push you, but something that you still can control." Since everyone's PR is different and each interval is set around that number, everyone in the class has an individualized experience and is able to push themselves to do their personal best.
"A lot of the feedback I get as a coach is, when people walk out, they’re so impressed with themselves," Grooms said, "I get a lot of 'I cannot believe how much I just did, how far I ran, how long I was able to go.' People truly surprise themselves by what they’re capable of."
Precision Run is located at 12 West 21st Street. Check out their site to book a class.
